The aim of the programme is to develop the skills and knowledge in basic principles of kitchen work, health and safety, and communication.  It will enable candidates to develop the practical skills, knowledge and attitude required to work and progress within the culinary industry.

Graduates will be prepared for employment as employees for the hospitality sector who are able to work as chefs in intermediate positions producing complex dishes in a commercial kitchen.

Course Duration

  • This is a self-paced home study course that can be completed in a time frame that suits you.
  • You can work through the material as fast as you like, but a maximum of 10 months is given to complete this programme.
  • This programme has an average expected duration of 34 weeks
  • This programme has a minimum average of 120 hours for industry practical
  • Course material is completed online via our Learner Management System, Canvas.
  • Our Learner Management System can be accessed via multiple devices : desktop, tablet & mobile
  • Our highly-experienced Chef Instructors will be on hand to guide you through to a successful course completion

On completion of the Level 3 Cookery programme, you could gain employment as a Chef de Partie or Sous Chef and be eligible to enrol in the New Zealand Diploma in Cookery (Level 5)  City and Guilds Diploma in Culinary Arts or City and Guilds Diploma in Baking and Patisserie.

The New Zealand Diploma in Cookery Culinary Arts (Level 4) is a full time, 34 week, 120 NZQF credit programme. The programme includes 8 courses, all of which are compulsory with a maximum of 10 months to complete. Students who successfully compete this programme will then have the option to continue onto the New Zealand Diploma in Cookery (Advanced) Level 5 If you feel that you have gained sufficient experience through time worked in the industry or have a relevant prior qualification, you might be eligible for Credit Recognition and Transfer (CRT)  or an Assessment of Prior Learning (RPL).   • Monthly Payments :  $ 3000 Deposit followed by 6 Monthly Payments of $ 500 per month, or

International Students 

  • Full Payment of  $ 10000, or
  • Monthly Payments :  $ 5000 Deposit followed by 6 Monthly Payments of $ 833 per month, or

What are the Minimum Enrolment Requirements?
  • Domestic students must be 17 years or older
  • International students must be 18 years or older
  • If English is not your first language, you will be required to provide evidence of your English Language skills. This is an IELTS result of a General or Academic score of 5.5. For more information please visit ielts.org
What Other Additional Costs are There?

You need to prepare for the following additional costs, depending on your programme:
